General

Why the name “Maltivor” ?

The name Maltivor was born from the fusion between the word “Malt” and the suffix from the Latin “-vore”. Malt is one of the cereals most used in the production of beer, which turns into “beer spent grain” after brewing and the suffix "-vore" recalls the action of eating. This name is intended to show that you can enjoy drinking a good beer and that at Maltivor, we go further: we eat it !

What is a by-product ?

A by-product is a material created during a manufacturing process of a main product. For example, spent grains are the by-product of beer, because when making beer, it is inevitable to create spent grains at the same time, because it is an essential element in the production of beer.

What is brewer's spent grain ?

Brewer's spent grains are the main by-product of beer production. The first step in making beer is to soak the cereals in hot water for 1 hour, this is the mash. At the end of this stage, the heart of the grain, made up mainly of starch, is dissolved in water in the form of sugar which will later become the alcohol in the beer. This results in cereals high in fiber, protein and low in carbohydrates. For our brewers, the rest of the malt was used for spreading, given to farmers or thrown away.

Why are Maltivor products good for the planet?

Maltivor is part of an eco-responsible approach thanks to products made from materials that were unused and problematic for brewers due to the lack of a treatment solution. Thus, our products make it possible to upcycle a by-product and to avoid waste. In addition, the beer spent grain reduces the strain on agricultural land and natural resources, as it uses 0 m² of agricultural land since it is created in the brewers' tank thanks to the malts used to make beer. Finally, we recover the spent grains locally and work with products from organic agriculture.
